Flight delay prediction model based on improved dual dynamic spatial-temporal graph network

Abstract

This paper proposed a flight delay prediction model based on multi graph information fusion and improved dual dynamic spatial-temporal graph convolutional network to address the limitation of only considering the spatial topology structure between airports in existing flight delay prediction models. Firstly, based on the different spatial correlations of flight delay propagation, it constructed four spatial adjacency matrices based on airports and routes, and performed multi graph fusion to provide more comprehensive spatial feature information. Secondly, it transformed the multi graph structure into a hypergraph to depict the spatial correlation between flight delays. It used gated time convolution to extract its time series correlation, while hypergraph convolution was used to extract its spatial correlation. This paper designed two feature enhancement modules to further avoid the loss of some point and edge spatial feature information. Finally, taking the prediction of flight delays between 50 airports in the United States from 2009 to 2019 as an example, it presented the true and predicted deviations of different airport sizes, and time steps. This model was compared with five mainstream baseline models and ablation experiments were conducted. The experimental results show that compared to other baseline models, the improved model in this paper can better fit the actual situation on this issue.
