Hand mesh reconstruction algorithm based on diffusion model

Abstract

Reconstructing hand meshes from monocular images is a highly challenging task, primarily affected by limited view and hand occlusion issues, leading to a non-unique mapping between images and meshes. To address this issue, this paper proposed a hand mesh reconstruction algorithm based on diffusion models, called DiffHand. It introduced noise to simulate uncertainty in the mesh reconstruction process, treating hand mesh reconstruction as a reverse diffusion process and selecting the optimal mesh based on external conditions. To effectively capture the structural connectivity of the hand mesh, this paper designed a U-Net denoiser network. It firstly incorporated a topology-aware feature embedding layer, which enhanced the spatial relationships between vertex features by integrating spatial topology information and gating mechanisms while reducing noise interference. Additionally, this paper designed a dual-branch graph convolution Transformer module to extract and effectively fuse both local and global vertex features, enhancing the complementarity between different features. Finally, this paper used 2D joint sampling features as conditional inputs for the diffusion model, applying cross-attention for feature fusion to further refine the reconstruction process. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm achieves a PA-MPJPE score of 6.0 mm on the FreiHAND dataset, significantly outperforming other advanced methods and demonstrating its superiority and effectiveness.
