Abstract

Under the widespread application of large-scale distributed storage systems, traditional fault-tolerant coding schemes face technical challenges such as high read resource consumption and insufficient repair efficiency during single-disk and double-disk failure recovery. This paper proposes VC-code (Vertical Central Symmetric Code) , a hybrid parity-check coding scheme with local repair characteristics. By integrating the rapid recovery and load balancing features of horizontal-vertical array codes, VC-code designs a structure that cross-couples local horizontal parity with diagonal parity checks, while optimizing data dependency through vertical central symmetric parity layout. This design significantly reduces data read volume for single and double disk failure recovery while improving overall efficiency by shortening repair chains. Theoretical analysis demonstrates substantial reductions in data read overhead during single and dual disk failure recovery. Experimental results further validate its performance advantages: compared with RDP, LRRDP, and DRDP codes, VC-code reduces single-disk failure recovery time by 10.45% to 29.57% and double-disk failure recovery time by 6.35% to 33.24%.
