Infrared video human action recognition based on attention integrated multi-residual inflated 3D convnet

Abstract

Infrared videos are vulnerable to background interference and lack rich temporal variations due to their physical properties, leading to poor human action recognition. To address this, this paper proposed a method combining attention mechanisms with multi-residual dilated 3D convolution for infrared video action recognition. First, it designed the Integrated Multi-Dimensional Attention (IMDA) to handle background interference and capture key areas in action frames by integrating spatial-temporal and channel information. Second, it designed the Temporal Pyramid Split Attention (TPSA) to capture dynamic information across multiple scales by splitting attention in the temporal dimension. Based on TPSA, this paper further developed the Temporal Pyramid Split Attention Multi-Residual (TSAMR) module to enhance the model's generalization in processing infrared videos under different background conditions. Experiments show that this method achieves accuracy of 81.73% and 90.76% on the IITR-IAR and campus safety action datasets, outperforming existing action recognition methods.
