Dual-state adaptive stochastic double Q-learning routing algorithm for UAV Ad hoc networks

Abstract

The routing algorithm design for unmanned aerial vehicle ad hoc networks (UANETs) needs to address dynamic network changes to achieve fast path selection and ensure efficient and reliable data transmission. To overcome the limitations of existing reinforcement learning-based routing algorithms in handling high-speed dynamic networks, this paper proposed a dual-state adaptive stochastic double Q-learning routing algorithm (2k-adaDQL) . The algorithm employed randomly alternating updates of double Q-functions to reduce overestimation bias in traditional Q-learning. To meet the diverse quality-of-service requirements of UANETs routing, the method combined multi-objective optimization techniques to design a composite reward function based on link reliability and delay. For highly dynamic network environments, the study innovatively introduced a dual-state adaptive parameter adjustment mechanism. This mechanism designed flexible parameter adaptation strategies according to different network states, ensuring timely responses to environmental changes and improving routing adaptability. Simulation results showed that compared to AODV, QMR, QGeo, and LN-AODV, the proposed 2k-adaDQL algorithm improved three key performance metrics: packet delivery rate, average end-to-end delay, and maximum end-to-end delay. The algorithm also demonstrated better scalability and stability, with significantly faster convergence than the baseline QMR algorithm. These results indicate that 2k-adaDQL performs optimally in UANETs environments, particularly in scenarios with sparse node distribution and high-speed variations.
