Task preemption-based computational offloading and cache optimization method in VEC

Abstract

With the rapid advancement of intelligent transportation systems, challenges such as uneven computing resource allocation and task latency sensitivity in Vehicular Edge Computing (VEC) have become increasingly prominent. However, static resource allocation methods in existing studies are insufficient for dynamic vehicular environments. To address this issue, this paper proposes a task preemption-based joint optimization framework for computation offloading and caching, enabling elastic cache expansion and efficient task scheduling. First, this paper established a collaborative computing model for multiple vehicles and Road Side Unit (RSU) , considering task priority and utilizing idle resources from parked vehicles. A Zipf distribution-based caching strategy was introduced to improve content placement. Then this paper integrated a task preemption mechanism to prioritize urgent tasks and alleviate RSU overload. Subsequently, this paper formulated A joint optimization problem to minimize average system delay by optimizing offloading and caching strategies. As the problem is high-dimensional and nonlinear, this paper proposed a Deep Reinforcement Learning based improved Asynchronous Advantage Actor-Critic algorithm. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method significantly reduces latency and improves task completion rates, enhancing user experience in practical vehicular environments.
