Abstract

Currently, Bitcoin and other mainstream cryptocurrencies face significant scalability challenges due to their single-shard blockchain architecture. To address this limitation, sharding has emerged as a promising solution for improving blockchain scalability. However, it also introduces a range of new technical and security challenges. Existing sharding approaches often overlook the effects of disparities in reputation, communication latency, and node distribution across shards, which can result in performance imbalance and potential security vulnerabilities. Moreover, full-scale shard reorganization entails substantial computational and temporal overhead, thereby reducing overall system efficiency. To tackle these issues, this paper proposes a reputation-driven shard reorganization model for blockchain systems. The model employs a constraint-based optimization algorithm to allocate nodes with varying trust levels to appropriate shards, thereby achieving balanced shard reputations and enhancing overall reliability. Theoretical analysis and experimental evaluations demonstrate that, compared with conventional sharding methods, the proposed model significantly improves both throughput and latency performance while reducing the shard failure rate. Furthermore, the model enables dynamic node load balancing, mitigates the risks of node centralization and collusion attacks, and ensures robust dynamic security for the blockchain system.
