Improved IVY algorithm to solve two-echelon location routing problem of agricultural products transportation

Abstract

To address the demand uncertainty, cargo loss risk, and open transportation routes in agricultural product logistics, the study constructed a multi-objective two-echelon location-routing problem(2E-LRP) model under an open-path framework that incorporated cargo damage costs, uncertain demand, and time window constraints. Then, based on the characteristics of the model, the study designed an improved IVY algorithm(EIVY) to solve the problem efficiently. The algorithm adopted a hybrid real-coded encoding strategy, integrated fast non-dominated sorting and crowding distance mechanisms, and combined multiple adaptive strategies with local search and hybrid mutation operators. Finally, the study conducted experiments on extended instances derived from the Prodhon benchmark dataset, and compared the EIVY algorithm with IVY, PKO and MSA algorithms. The results show that EIVY achieves superior performance in terms of solution quality, convergence accuracy, and multi-objective balance. These findings confirm the practicality of the proposed model and the effectiveness of the improved algorithm in solving complex agricultural logistics optimization problems.
