Optimal strategy and performance analysis of cloud servers considering fault factors

Abstract

In a cloud center environment, long-running servers may experience failures. Therefore, this study aimed to address the server selection problem for randomly arriving requests in a cloud center with potential failure risks, in order to achieve the optimal trade-off between expected response time and power consumption. The research employed a Markov decision process to analyze the expected response time of requests, proposed an iterative optimization method to determine the best server selection strategy that met the target requirements, and used analysis of variance to evaluate the impact of system para-meters on the algorithm's performance. The results show that the proposed iterative optimization method can effectively determine the best server selection strategy, achieve the optimal balance between expected response time and power consumption. And the analysis of variance clarifies the specific influence laws of system parameters on the algorithm's performance. This study provides an effective theoretical basis and practical guidance for cloud service providers to select servers and optimize system performance while considering server failures.
