Privacy-preserving multi-dimensional and multi-subset data aggregation scheme for smart grids

Abstract

To address the risk of privacy leakage during user data collection in smart grids, this study investigated a multidimensional and multi-subset data aggregation mechanism. Building on the observation that existing schemes generally lack support for multidimensional aggregation and incur high computational costs, this paper proposed a privacy-preserving multidimensional and multi-subset data aggregation scheme(PPMS-DA) that leveraged additive homomorphic ElGamal encryption. The scheme integrated signature verification and user grouping to perform secure aggregation without relying on any trusted third party. Security analysis under the random oracle model demonstrates that the scheme achieves ciphertext indistinguishability and signature unforgeability, effectively resisting collusion attacks between the control center and the gateway. Under experimental settings involving varying numbers of users and data dimensions, performance evaluation shows that, compared with the most efficient of five mainstream schemes, the proposed approach reduces computational overhead by 18.84% at the gateway side and 24.55% at the control center side, without employing expensive pairing operations. The results indicate that the scheme offers strong practicality and scalability for large-scale and resource-constrained smart grid environments.
