Path planning algorithm for mobile robots based on dual-layer fuzzy control and improved genetic algorithm

Abstract

To enhance the path safety and planning efficiency of mobile robots performing multiple tasks in complex road environments, we propose a method that integrates a dual-layer fuzzy control system with an improved genetic algorithm. We first design a dual-layer fuzzy control system based on expert knowledge: the first layer transforms complex road conditions and obstacles into road safety levels, while the second layer incorporates task safety levels to generate adaptive fitness weights for the genetic algorithm. By introducing road safety factors into the fitness function model, we strengthen the safety of the planned paths. At the algorithmic level, we optimize the selection, crossover, and mutation operations using Bernoulli chaotic mapping, a Gaussian operator, and a symmetrical sigmoid operator, thereby improving global search ability and optimization efficiency. Experimental results show that, compared to other algorithms, our method reduces path length by up to 5.9% and the number of turns by up to 85.7%. It also demonstrates strong generalizability and robustness in various comparative scenarios, effectively addressing the interplay between complex road environments and task safety requirements.
