Serial multi-workshop scheduling method based on mappo algorithm

Abstract

To address the complexity of dynamic environment and difficulty in production scheduling in serial multi-workshop, a scheduling optimization method based on multi-agent deep reinforcement learning was proposed. The scheduling process was modeled as a Markov decision process, two types of agents (machine selection and AGV scheduling) were designed, and a multi-agent collaborative scheduling framework for workshops was constructed. An asynchronous update mechanism was introduced to improve the MAPPO (Multi-Agent Proximal Policy Optimization) algorithm for better adaptability, and a workshop simulation model was built with Plant Simulation to realize collaborative optimization between the MAPPO algorithm and the simulation model. Experiments were conducted in an equipment manufacturing factory under different task scales and disturbance scenarios. The results show that the proposed method outperforms traditional scheduling rules, genetic algorithms, and mainstream multi-agent algorithms in terms of makespan, resource utilization, and load balancing, demonstrating good adaptability and stability.
