Multi-strategy traffic scheduling algorithm for TSN

Abstract

Cyclic queuing and forwarding (CQF) is one of the most representative methods for achieving deterministic forwarding in Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) . However, traditional CQF scheduling requires offset searches for each flow and rollbacks of assigned results when scheduling conflicts occur, which introduces considerable computational overhead. To address this issue, this study proposes a multi-strategy traffic scheduling algorithm, MSTD3S (mapping score-based twin delayed deep deterministic policy gradient scheduling) . This multi-strategy approach integrates three core modules: mapping score-based pre-filtering, GCN-based global awareness, and PSO-optimized multi-objective rewards. By combining the mapping score with the TD3 framework, the algorithm pre-filters scheduling combinations, cuts down on invalid scheduling actions, and minimizes traversal and rollback operations. It incorporates Graph Convolutional Networks (GCN) to perceive the network environment, and thus reflects link congestion status and path resource allocation dynamics. To boost the algorithm’s performance, this study designs a multi-dimensional reward function that integrates scheduling success rate, resource distribution variance, mapping scores and delay penalties. Simulation results demonstrate that MSTD3S outperforms traditional CQF scheduling in scheduling success rate, resource utilization and load balancing, while significantly reducing computational overhead. Through the synergistic effects of its multi-strategy components, MSTD3S effectively elevates the overall performance of traffic scheduling in TSN scenarios.
