Text-guided controllable infrared-visible image fusion network for complex degradation

Abstract

To address the challenges in fusing infrared and visible images under various degradation conditions—where it is difficult to balance detail, contrast, and semantic consistency while lacking controllability—this paper proposes the Degradation-aware Mixture-of-Experts Text-guided Fusion (DMTFuse) network. This method predicts expert weights through degradation-aware routing to adaptively combine processes like rain removal, fog removal, and enhancement. It introduces text-driven feature modulation in a multi-scale backbone and designs pixel-level adaptive fusion and reconstruction constraints to stabilize semantic and textural information. Employing staged training, it incorporates “pattern-intensity” priors and achieves continuous text control via language distillation. On LLVIP, MSRS, M3FD, and RoadScene, DMTFuse achieves cross-dataset average values of AG=7.27, EN=7.54, SF=19.82, SD=55.33, VIF=0.94, and MI=3.26. DMTFuse improves target saliency and background texture and maintains visual naturalness under degraded conditions. Text commands enable smooth switching among multiple fusion strategies. The results show that DMTFuse supports interpretable and controllable IR–VIS fusion in complex degraded environments.
