Chebyshev map and puf-based lightweight authentication scheme for UAV

Abstract

To address the high computational and communication overheads of existing unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) network authentication schemes and the issues of single-point failure and centralized authority in traditional single ground control station architecture, this paper proposed a lightweight UAV authentication scheme named CPLA-UAV by combining Chebyshev mapping and physical unclonable function (PUF) . The scheme utilized the semigroup property of Chebyshev mapping to design an efficient authentication and key agreement process, and integrated PUF to realize the concealed storage of critical UAV information for resisting physical capture attack. Furthermore, it constructed a decentralized multi-ground control station collaboration system based on blockchain and applied smart contract to realize automated access control. Informal analysis and formal security proofs based on the Random-or-Real model verified the security of the scheme. Comparative experiments showed that CPLA-UAV reduced computational and communication overheads by up to 93.4% and 41.8% respectively while providing comprehensive security properties. The proposed scheme is suitable for resource-constrained UAV network environments.
