Abstract

Neurophysiological research shows that saccadic suppression in mammalian visual systems inhibits retinal signal slippage and thus counteracts the abnormal representation of luminance signals in retinal neuropiles. Inspired by this biological neural mechanism, this paper proposes an artificial vision system, called the Visual Mislocalization Perception Neural Network (VMPNN) , to detect visual mislocalization anomalies, a type of quality defect in video signal preprocessing. The proposed system includes two components: presynaptic and postsynaptic subnetworks. The presynaptic subnetwork captures low-order motion cues through receptive field remapping. The postsynaptic subnetwork then extracts motion frequency features, suppresses abrupt changes in visual signals within the neighborhood of the saccadic suppression receptive field, and outputs clusters of neural membrane potentials. This process reflects signal sensitivity to mislocalization anomalies in the field of view. Experimental results show that VMPNN generates strong neural responses to sudden mislocalization of foreground objects against the background. This work provides insights for visual information processing tasks such as tracking, navigation, robotics, and virtual reality in computer vision and artificial intelligence.
