Spatiotemporal-constrained local differential privacy trajectory publishing method for areas of interest

Abstract

This paper proposed a spatiotemporal-constrained local differential privacy trajectory publishing method for areas of interest, termed ST-LDPAoI (Spatiotemporal-Constrained Local Differential Privacy for Areas of Interest) , to address sensitive stay-semantics leakage and long-range jump deformation caused by perturbation in trajectory publishing. The method used a hidden semi-Markov model with explicit duration modeling on the client side to detect stay points and construct areas of interest. Under areas-of-interest constraints, it constructed a candidate domain and applied distance-stratified randomized response for constrained perturbation, suppressing trajectory deformation and long-range jumps, with a floor term to guarantee full output support. Theoretical analysis showed that ST-LDPAoI satisfies ε-local differential privacy. Experiments on the GeoLife and Rome Taxi datasets with multiple baselines showed that the F1-score of stay point detection increased by 4.14% and 9.20% compared with SPDM-TSR. Under the same privacy budget, the average DTWS decreased by 16.61% and 15.50% compared with LDPTPM-AoI. The method effectively balances the protection of sensitive stay semantics and trajectory utility, enhancing the practical value of trajectory data.
