Reliability-guaranteed service function chain adjustment method for SDN/NFV networks

Abstract

In the environment of Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) , adjusting Reliable Service Function Chains (SFC) is a core concern. Existing studies have two shortcomings: single optimization objectives fail to balance resource overhead and reliability; mainstream algorithms have high resource consumption and poor adaptability to edge cloud deployment. To address these, this paper proposes a lightweight SFC adjustment method. A Mixed-Integer Linear Programming (MILP) model is constructed with dual objectives of minimizing resource overhead and maximizing reliability. A Lagrangian Relaxation-based solution algorithm (LRHA) is designed to relax decision constraints, update Lagrange multipliers via subgradient optimization, and convert relaxed solutions into feasible ones. Compared with the current mainstream algorithms (RABP algorithm, VDB algorithm and BCR algorithm) , simulation results show that the algorithm has good convergence, outperforming mainstream algorithms in request acceptance rate, resource overhead and running efficiency, and is suitable for resource-constrained edge cloud deployment.
