Multi-distribution-center cold chain delivery route optimization considering fuzzy demand and time-dependent road networks

Abstract

To address the infeasibility of multi-depot cold-chain delivery plans caused by uncertain demand, time-varying road conditions, and insufficient vehicle load, this study developed a route optimization method under fuzzy demand and time-dependent road networks. The method constructed a cost-minimization model including cargo damage, refrigeration, fuel consumption, and time-window penalty costs. It represented customer demand with triangular fuzzy numbers, evaluated the reliability of the remaining vehicle load by credibility theory, and calculated travel time through piecewise time-dependent speed recursion. It further designed pre-service load verification, nearest-depot replenishment, and nearest-depot return rules, and developed an improved genetic algorithm embedded with stochastic simulation evaluation and adaptive large neighborhood search-based local intensification. The results show that the nearest-depot return rule reduces total cost by 6.06% and time-window penalty by 74.77% compared with returning to the original depot. The pre-service load verification and nearest-depot replenishment mechanism reduces shortage customers to zero and achieves a 100% complete service rate. The method improves cost control, time-window fulfillment, and service continuity in multi-depot cold-chain distribution under fuzzy demand and time-varying road conditions.
