Two-stage channel estimation for isac millimeter-wave uplink with imperfect prior information

Abstract

To address geometric prior mismatch caused by sensing errors and the high computational complexity of existing algorithms in radar-aided millimeter-wave multiple-input multiple-output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) uplink systems, this study proposed a two-stage sparse channel estimation scheme. In the first stage, a robust adaptive-order simultaneous weighted orthogonal matching pursuit algorithm exploited coarse radar angle priors to construct local high-resolution angle dictionaries. It combined a robust multi-pilot correlation metric with residual-ratio-based adaptive order determination and employed a single-atom replacement search to accurately extract effective paths, especially weak paths. In the second stage, a generalized mean-field relevance vector machine performed structured sparse Bayesian estimation. Under the constraints of refined angular supports and coarse radar delay priors, it organized local delay atoms according to candidate angles and reduced the complexity of Bayesian inference through structured posterior approximation and atom-wise sparse shrinkage. Simulation results show that, under 3GPP comb-type pilot patterns with limited pilot resources, the proposed scheme achieves an approximately 2 dB performance gain over the benchmark algorithms and reduces the runtime of the second stage by approximately 1.5 orders of magnitude.
