Community-prototype-based cross-domain recommendation method for zero-overlap users

Abstract

To address the absence of shared users and the difficulty of establishing stable user-level mappings in zero-overlap cross-domain recommendation, the study developed a community-prototype semantic graph-based cross-domain recommendation method, termed Community–Prototype Hierarchical Cross-Domain Recommendation (CPH-CDR) . The method constructed intra-domain graphs from user–item interactions and type-level semantic relations, detected user communities with similar preferences, and introduced community-center nodes to aggregate group interests. It then learned bridging relations between source- and target-domain communities and employed shared interest prototypes as semantic hubs, allowing preference information to propagate along the heterogeneous path of “user–prototype–community–item”. Bridging weights and prototype assignments were jointly optimized using recommendation-task feedback. Experiments were conducted on three zero-overlap cross-domain tasks constructed from the Amazon review dataset and MovieLens 25M dataset. Results show that CPH-CDR outperforms GWCDR, UGUFDT, MCRPL, and NATR overall in terms of AUC, NDCG, Recall, Precision, and MAP. Its AUC exceeds that of the second-best model by 0.1328, 0.1299, and 0.0321 on the three tasks, respectively. Ablation experiments, recommendation-list-length sensitivity analysis, and prototype-path contribution analysis further confirm the effectiveness, stability, and interpretability of the method.
