Multimodal graph recommendation method with clip semantic space and bidirectional cross-modal attention

Abstract

Multimodal recommender systems face limitations in semantic alignment, graph structure, and modality fusion. This paper proposed a graph-based multimodal recommendation method named SDA-GCN. The method used CLIP as a unified encoder to obtain aligned visual and textual representations. A trainable modality adaptation module further enhanced these representations for recommendation tasks. The algorithm constructed an adaptive K-nearest neighbor item graph to capture semantic relations and improve graph convolution-based representation learning. A gated bidirectional cross-modal attention fusion module performed two-way interaction between visual and textual features to exploit complementary information effectively. Experimental results on several real-world datasets showed the superiority of SDA-GCN over representative baseline models in Recall@K and NDCG@K. SDA-GCN provides an effective approach for multimodal recommendation.
