Integrating global awareness and dynamic temporal alignment for cross-modal emotion recognition

Abstract

To address cross-modal temporal asynchrony, text dominance, and insufficient utilization of non-verbal cues in multimodal emotion recognition, this study proposed a Temporal-Global-Frequency Fusion Network (TGF-Net) . TGF-Net adopted a Main-Auxiliary Collaborative Three-Branch Architecture. The three branches performed complementary modeling from the perspectives of semantic interaction, global context, and hybrid time-frequency representation. To alleviate temporal misalignment caused by dynamic semantic delays across modalities, the model introduced a Genlock-Fuzzy Convolution (GFC) module. GFC used phase-offset estimation, adaptive fuzzy windows, and dynamic Gaussian soft convolution to achieve fine-grained temporal resampling. This mechanism provided a learnable calibration approach for cross-modal semantic alignment. The model also constructed a global branch to retrieve long-range emotional dependencies and peripheral emotional cues. In addition, it designed a frequency branch based on hybrid-domain decoupling to supplement frequency-domain acoustic information. Experiments on CMU-MOSEI and CH-SIMS v2 showed that TGF-Net achieved binary classification accuracies of 86.49% and 80.56%, respectively. It also achieved accuracies of 54.26% and 58.51% on the seven-class and five-class tasks, respectively. These results demonstrate the effectiveness of TGF-Net in multimodal emotion recognition.
