Abstract

PCIe(peripheral component interconnect express) is a high-speed serial computer expansion bus standard. Designers use this standard to create PCIe switch chips that expand the number of PCIe interfaces from the PCIe channels provided by CPUs. However, as the complexity of PCIe switch chip designs increases dramatically, traditional verification platforms built on Verilog struggle to efficiently verify large verification vectors and complex Switch subsystems, lacking functional coverage models. To address these issues, this paper adopted UVM(universal verification methodology), constructing a verification platform for the Switch subsystem in PCIe switch chips. The platform employed hierarchical design, supported coverage-driven verification, and introduced efficiency optimizations compared to conventional UVM verification platforms. Specifically, the communication objects and methods of the reference model component received optimization. The comparison method and message reception ports of the ScoreBoard component underwent improvement. And based on the PCIe protocol and characteristics of the switch chip, test cases were designed after categorizing and analyzing functional points, aiming to comprehensively verify the Switch subsystem. Analysis of signal waveforms and coverage data shows that the improved verification platform achieves 96.8% code coverage and 100% functional coverage without manual filtering, with an average reduction of about 10% in simulation time. This platform significantly enhances verification efficiency, effectively supporting the verification work of PCIe switch chips and providing a reference for building related UVM verification platforms.
