Joint optimization of energy consumption and load balancing in service function Chain deployment

Abstract

To address the dual challenges of energy conservation and network load balance in Service Function Chain (SFC) deployment, this paper introduce an innovative approach named NIR-IACA (Node Importance Ranking-based Improved Ant Colony Algorithm) . This paper utilizes a Particle Swarm Optimization-based CNN-GRU model (PCNN-GRU) in conjunction with Generalized Network Temperature (GNT) to predict node load conditions and identify potential candidates for SFC deployment. Subsequently, this paper crafts an enhanced Ant Colony Algorithm (ACA) guided by a shortest path priority strategy, which is integrated into the High Availability and Resource Scheduling (HARS) framework for node selection and virtual link deployment, ensuring both energy efficiency and load balance. This paper conducts simulations using the Clearwater VNF public dataset, which validate the superiority of NIR-IACA over prevailing methods such as MC-EEVP, DPVC, and RQAP. The approach achieves an average energy saving of 13.09% and improves load balancing by 12.98%. Notably, the solution sustains a commendable acceptance rate for SFC requests, thereby achieving a harmonious balance between energy-efficient SFC deployment and network load management.
