Abstract

The Space-Air-Ground Integrated Network (SAGIN) is a heterogeneous architecture for next-generation mobile communication systems. Federated Learning (FL) , as a secure distributed machine learning paradigm, enhances communication performance while preserving privacy, making it a critical technology for future mobile networks. The integration of FL into SAGIN-enabled communication collaboration represents a mainstream trend in the evolution of mobile communication systems. This paper first introduces the concepts, applications, and challenges of FL and SAGIN. Then, focusing on FL-driven communication mechanisms, key technologies for intra-layer and cross-layer communication in SAGIN scenarios are analyzed, including resource allocation, network orchestration, network slicing, heterogeneous networking, mobile edge computing, and cloud-edge-device integration. Finally, future research directions for FL-based SAGIN communication technologies are discussed, encompassing quantum communication, 6G communication, and green communication.
