Abstract

Mobile crowdsensing (MCS) has been widely applied in domains such as smart cities and environmental monitoring. However, its dependence on large volumes of user-sensitive data poses serious privacy risks and hinders broader adoption. This study conducts a systematic investigation into privacy protection in MCS. It analyzes privacy threats across three key stages—task allocation, data collection, and data processing—and constructs a technical framework encompassing four main categories of privacy-preserving methods: anonymization and pseudonymization, data perturbation, data encryption, and distributed privacy protection. The study further compares these methods across dimensions including privacy effectiveness, computational complexity, data utility, and scenario adaptability to clarify their mechanisms and application boundaries. Finally, it discusses current limitations and explores future directions, emphasizing the role of emerging technologies in advancing privacy protection for MCS.
